Winter Grandprix 2014

Sunderland – March – The Finale

20150307_094205

And its all over!  5 races across 5 Towns 2 counties for 5 months – but it wasn’t without….you guessed it DRAMA!!!   With race officials pondering the internet and estimating who would come where, we had it sorted – or so we thought.  In a cruel twist of fate Gordon had been instructed he could not race and the title would go to Wayne, but fate twisted slightly crueler for Wayne when Gordon turned up!  Will myself (Mark Christie) suffering a cruel and rather loose twist of brown fate all week, I trotted round with Mya – surely letting George Harden take 3rd,  but fate twisted once again with George feeling weak half way round.     At the end, we thought we had it right and the Cakes went to the respective winners – but in a twist of fate that was crueler than the wind its self, the table doesn’t lie and at the end of today, there can be only 1 headline  “GEORGE HARDEN STOLE MY DOUGHNUT!!”      Lesley did pull up in today’s race but had secured enough points to take 1st regardless,  Katrina made a return and came in first lady to give her overall 2nd – Michelle Furness took the ladies doughnut as Mya won the kids prize, but technically was 3rd female too.   Connor will be feeding his face with cake, taking the Junior male prize with another great race.   Speaking of Juniors – the cheeky little monkeys have gone n taken the team prize!!!     Well done all of you, now lets start the season!

Durham – February

20150207_094008

The penultimate race and its Connor Prior who keeps the Juniors in the running for the team prize,  a fantastic sub 21 run alongside Mya who resiliently saved points today – putting the team in a very close second spot.  Lesley took a point from the purt ladies to put Kronenbourg 1664 Ladies into second and Leigh Proctor has kept the tight tops also just 1 point off the mark.  Its all to play for at  Sunderland next month.

Individually Lesley and Gordon are going to take some stopping but anything can happen if there’s a big turn out in Sunderland.   I will break it down:

Wayne needs 3 people to get in between him n Gordon to take his crown – if George can replicate today where I pick up 6 points more than him, I would still take 3rd  but if 1 more squeezes in we tie, 2 and its curtains for me!!

If Rachael Case put 6 women between her and Lesley – she would take it!!   If its the same ladies who ran today, in Sunderland – Mya could sneak 3rd female too!

The Junior Girls is out of sight – Mya cannot  lose unless a Junior beats a record turn out of 19 women in Sunderland.

Mathematically Tom Hughes could catch Conner if he could put 21 men between him and Conner.

Gateshead – January

20150110_093125Frost last month and wind this – Gateshead provided drama at the midway point in the series.   With the wind howling and, no doubt, legs creaking – only the brave turned out.  This played right into Leslie “The Battle”s hands, finishing first lady she is now joint top of the league.    Luke “Return of the Mac” McCormack was first man,  but an exceptional run from Wayne “His world” Kemp has piled the pressure on Gordon “The stitch” Stutchbury  by squeezing a runner between em.

The only child to be dragged there against their will was Mya “children’s rights”Christie who prevented the young guns from picking up a maximum.  It was a good day for tight tops with Luke turning up to make it a 1 -2 for them.  Elasticated waistbands fell to the floor and displayed their spotty underkrackers when George “Hardluck” Harden pulled up with injury.   Comfortable Classics remain mid table but Kronenbourg 1664 Ladies  have taken the lead in the ladies.

Riverside Park – December

Pkrun

A very frosty morning saw a good turn out but also a turnover in bed for some!!       With the ladies scoring 7 and men 23 for the no show.   It was a day for elasticated waistbands with George and Gordon coming in 1st and 2nd  – Rachael Case spared the purt ladies blushes by coming in first for SunCityTri and 3rd overall.    Scalp of the day goes to the  Kronenbourg 1664 team who are now just a point behind the purt ladies following a cool 2nd n 3rd from Leslie and Carol.    Comfortable Classic men, slipped a little with Dan and Wayne coming in before my good self and taking the Tight tops in front.  The Young Guns suffered a little in the cold but are still in with a great chance, having 3 counters – its all to run for!!!!

South Shields   November

What a turn out for the first of the series, from the Juniors to the not so Juniors.  A brilliant sunny day saw Paul Robson and Melanie Haughan in exactly the same position as they are in The King Of the Hill,  but there’s only seconds in it and its only the first race of what is going to be a hot competition.   The Teams competition appears to work points wise with the Purt Ladies (Seniors)  just pipping the Comfortable Classic men (Vet 40s)
